Prison lockdown after guard assaulted

16 Mar, 2010 03:08 PM
RISDON Prison is in lockdown following the assault of a prison guard.

In a press release, Director of Corrective Services Robert Williams confirmed that Tasmania Police are investigating the assault of a correctional officer this morning.

The assault took place in the prison's maximum security unit.

The injured officer was taken to hospital but has since been released.

Mr Williams said that a lockdown of the maximum security unit was now in place and is not expected to be lifted until tomorrow.

He also confirmed that an assault on three prison officers on March 8 is also under police investigation.

That incident also took place in the prison's maximum security unit.

All three officers have since resumed work back.
