Office is now free of pigeons

12 Mar, 2010 09:45 AM
A PIGEON colony in the roof of Bass Labor MHR Jodie Campbell's office has been eradicated, and the office is expected to open again early next week.

Ms Campbell was forced to close her office this week while hundreds of pigeons were euthanased and the roof cavity cleared and sanitised.

Pest controller Grant Morris was given the task of removing the birds from the roof and then "pigeon-proofing" it with netting so they would not return.

Mr Morris said the St John Street building had not presented as big a challenge as first predicted.

"It was nowhere near as bad as some of the buildings I've done before," Mr Morris said.

"It was not too bad. There was obviously a problem there, but it was not a major problem.

"We've sanitised it and removed everything from the roof so it will all be fine by Monday."

Mr Morris said he had been kept busy with inquiries about pigeons, as a reported "plague" of the birds settled in roofs around the city.
