BAGPIPES and music from a brass band echoed through Launceston's City Park yesterday as the St Andrew's Caledonian Pipe Band and the West Tamar Municipal Brass Band joined forces for the final performance of the 2012 Music in the Park program.
The popular Launceston City Council program ran each Sunday from early January and also included a special Australia Day performance featuring a variety of music genres.
The combined pipe and brass bands enjoyed one of the largest crowds of the program, as families took advantage of the warm weather and kept cool in the shade of the park's trees.
Pipe major John Ralph said they played both individual and combined pieces.
``The combined performances are always popular, I think people really enjoy listening to the two together,'' Mr Ralph said.
``We have our dedicated followers and they do too, so today with both of us here, you can't go wrong.''
The 25-piece pipe band had a number of pipers accompanied by three different types of drums and three highland dancers to add some colour to the performance.
Baritone horn player Kerry Ellis said the brass band of 30 musicians played a combination of marches, movie themes, jazz and popular tunes.
``We're very happy with the turnout - this is fantastic'' Ms Ellis said.
