Festival draws people from far and wide

06 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
FESTIVAL goers from as far as Japan and Belgium were among those who flocked to the Jackeys Marsh Forest Festival over the weekend.

The three-day art, music and environment festival raised awareness of the values of the Great Western Tiers.

``It's a celebration of a piece of land that is beautiful and a chance to share it with people who come from near and far,'' Festival ticketing co-ordinator Clare Woods said.

Highlights included a range of workshops including tai chi, yoga, hemp growing, drum making, belly dancing and conservation.

Melbourne bands Mista Savona, Bombay Royale and The Woohoo Revue got everyone dancing on Saturday night with DJs continuing the party into the early hours of yesterday.

Ms Woods said Launceston band Thieves was a favourite yesterday.

``People couldn't get enough of them,'' she said.

The festival concluded with a forest festival cabaret and an open jam session.

Ms Woods said a key theme of the festival was sustainability.
