IF you're after the perfect wine to drink in the park at Festivale, then go no further than the Barringwood Park 2009 Jessica Pink Bubbly.
The pink wine was awarded the special judges award at last night's Festivale cocktail party.
Wine writer Winsor Dobbin and sommelier and co-owner of the Black Cow and Stillwater, James Welsh, judged the awards and said that their selections were based on what they thought was the most outstanding and drinkable beverage in each category.
``Generally the quality across the board was fairly good as you would expect from Tasmanian wine,'' Mr Dobbin said.
``But you just look for the most outstanding in each bracket.''
It took just over an hour for the pair to make their selections. ``In three of the four brackets we were almost totally in accord and agreeance, which is interesting because I'm one of the older guys and James is one of the younger guys,'' Mr Dobbin said.
``We had a little bit more disagreement on the pinot bracket, but we were still quite happy with the wine we ended up choosing.''
The three-day food and wine extravaganza, which starts today, will feature almost 100 wines from vineyards across Tasmania.
Mr Dobbin said that the awards were a good way to guide people in the right direction towards the most outstanding wines.
``I would still suggest that they go and try the wine and have a sip before they buy a glass because nobody's pallet is the same,'' he said.
