Uni student mag Togatus makes a comeback

11 Mar, 2009 01:51 PM
TOGATUS, the University of Tasmania's famous student magazine, is making a come back.

Published for more than 80 years, Togatus played a central role in student life at UTAS until it ceased publication in 2006 due to funding shortfalls.

Premier David Bartlett today joined UTAS Vice Chancellor Professor Daryl Le Grew to officially re-launch the free student magazine.

"Tasmania of the 21st Century needs to be a place full of ideas and creativity and dynamism.

"Universities are the nurseries for new ideas, big ideas and passionate debates.

"For 80 years at this university, one of the places where that debate of ideas has raged is in the pages of Togatus.

"I remember what an important part of university life Togatus was when I attended UTAS, so I am really pleased it has been revived. Back then I even wrote some articles," Mr Bartlett said.

The new Togatus is a joint publication between the Tasmanian University Union and the Journalism, Media and Communications Program however it will remain student driven with 1500 copies printed four times a year and distributed free at all UTAS campuses.

There is also an online version.
