POLICE are hunting for two thieves who used explosives to try and break into an ATM at Westbury this morning. Police say they don’t believe any money was taken.A police spokesman said they were called at about 2.45am to attend a report of an explosion at Dunkies News and Food in Westbury.“Police from arrived a short time later and discovered that an explosive device had been used to gain entry to the ANZ Bank ATM situated at the front of the store."The explosion caused significant damage to the ATM and minor damage to the shop. At this stage it is not believed any money was stolen from the ATM,” the spokesman said.“Witnesses observed two male persons running from the area immediately after the explosion. They were observed leaving the scene in a dark coloured sedan similar in size to a Commodore. “The vehicle was last observed travelling North on William Street towards Birralee Road. Both males were wearing dark clothing and full faced balaclavas.”Police would like to hear from anyone who has information which may lead to the apprehension of the people responsible or anyone who observed or heard any suspicious activity in the Westbury area last night.Information can be provided confidentially through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by telephoning Tasmania Police on 131 444 or contact your local police station.It is the second time thieves have used explosives to rob an ATM with a large amount of money taken when an ATM in Latrobe was attacked last month.CLICK HERE FOR MORE PICTURES . . .
