GOLD COAST - Tennis star Bernard Tomic could face further traffic charges after a standoff with police at his Gold Coast home on Australia Day.
Police said the 19-year-old was issued with two tickets after twice being intercepted driving his high powered BMW M3 on Thursday afternoon.
He was pulled over on Albert Avenue at Broadbeach around 12.40pm and given a $300 infringement notice.
Police said the ticket was for driving a high powered vehicle in breach of the special conditions of his licence.
He was stopped a second time in Surf Parade at Broadbeach around 3pm where he was given another ticket for the same offence, police said.
Tomic, who was named in Australia's Davis Cup squad on Thursday, has a special exemption to drive the $150,000 sports car, but only to and from training and other activities directly related to his tennis.
The car's power is electronically limited, although its top speed still exceeds 250km/h.
Senior police are now investigating allegations by an officer that Tomic failed to stop after he was seen driving on Waterways Drive at Main Beach around 3.30pm.
It was the third encounter that led to a standoff at the Tomic home in Southport.
After being followed home by a police car with lights flashing, Tomic parked his car in the driveway behind locked security gates and refused to talk to police until his lawyer arrived.
Tomic insisted he had done nothing wrong and claimed he was being persecuted by police who were out to get him.
