Tighten gun controls: Brown

17 Nov, 2011 05:29 PM
GREENS leader Bob Brown has called for tighter gun controls after three Tasmanians were busted in the US for shooting and killing elk out of season.

Senator Brown has blamed hunting for rising gun sales.

``This culture of killing wild beasts is being promoted and we know that gun sales in Australia are going up, it's high time we had a review of that,'' he

said.

``There is a right place for weapons in any society but armed Australians shooting down helpless wonderful wild creatures elsewhere in the world is not

one of them.

``As a Tasmanian I'm ashamed and appalled.''

Australia's peak deer hunting body expressed shock and disappointment at the Blackwood Creek men who were given partially suspended jail terms for

illegally hunting and killing elk and a wolf in the Rocky Mountains.

Australian Deer Association national president Bob Gough said Samuel Henley, 18, Darren Tubb, 43, and Anton Kapeller, 58, had tarnished the reputation

of Australians heading overseas to hunt.

Yes, that makes sense. It is completely logical to call for an increase in restriction for Australian firearm-licencees following an isolated breach of an existing law in an international jurisdiction that was successfully prosecuted.

For that matter, how can anyone suggest that privately hunting a wild animal for meat abhorrent while enjoying the meat and other products of farmed animals that require killing said animals? Is Bob Brown a practising vegan, or just a hypocrite?

Yes Brown you don't have a problem with guns to kill people but you deny people the right to collect their own food.

One word comes to mind - hypocrite.

Gun sales going up?

Why don't you tell the truth and admit the reason is because of recent changes and upgrading for Police and law enforcement?

Given that Tasmanians have a proud tradition of hunting for over 40,000 years, Bob Brown might want to take himself and his ridiculous views to another country.

These 3 poachers & lawbreakers are a disgrace - not only shooting animals out of season, they left fires unattended , wasted the kills ,swapped licences ...broke every rule.

I have NO IDEA why they shouldn't not serve the time in jail.

Why should OUR money be spent on bringing them back with consular assistance.

Innocents - they are not - as the judge said.

Why do we need to spend Millions of $$ to review firearms laws because a couple of selfish idiots did the wrong thing, punish them they were the one's who committed an offense Not Me, why should I have my life interfered with because of someone else's stupidity. Punish those who do wrong and stop trying to drag all the good LAFO's into it. I supose we need to review drivers licenses and rego next - pretty sure I saw someone speeding!! Your a joke Bob Brown - Penalise the Crims not the Inoccent, no wonder everyones is getting sick of the Greens with this sort of stupid thinking all the time.
