Police arrest alleged driver of fatal crash

08 Feb, 2012 11:44 AM
POLICE have arrested a 30-year-old Rocherlea man in relation to a fatal crash on the East Tamar Highway on Monday.

Traffic Inspector Darren Hopkins said the man was being interviewed by police this morning and would appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court this afternoon.

``We are satisfied that he was the offending driver,'' Inspector Hopkins said.

The man was arrested after a search of his property early this morning and has been charged with unrelated offences.

Inspector Hopkins said police would charge him with the Newnham crash that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old Waverley man Troy Dolbey.

Mr Dolbey was a passenger in the car and died from his injuries in the Launceston General Hospital on Monday night.

A 29-year-old Ravenswood man was also injured and is in a satisfactory condition at the hospital.

Inspector Hopkins said a fourth man turned himself in to police yesterday and admitted to being a passenger in the car at the time of the crash. He has been released without charge.
