George Town graffiti spree

13 Feb, 2012 02:46 PM
A GEORGE Town spray painting spree triggered a number of complaints from town residents last Friday night.

Cimitiere, Arthur, Davies and Wellington street properties and cars were last week "tagged'' and sprayed with derogatory comments and lines by offenders, who remain unknown to the police.

George Town Police are investigating the incident which affected almost 40 homes within the area.

George Town Police Sergeant Heazlewood said while damage wasn't considerable, it had been a nuisance for residents.

"I believe most of it has been able to be cleaned off by the complainants,'' Sergeant Heazlewood said.

"In today's day and age I don't believe the comments have offended anyone.''

She said the incident was a "one-off'' for the area.

"Fortunately we don't see this often, it's not a normal or regular occurrence,'' Sergeant Heazlewood said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the George Town Police on 6382 4040 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
