Hobart CIB have charged a 14-year-old youth with rape following an alleged incident at Cornelian Bay last week.
According to the ABC, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly attacked on January 30 while alone on a track between Cornelian Bay and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
The youth has been charged with 1 count of aggravated assault, 1 count of rape, 1 count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
The teenager was arrested at his home in Hobart, Acting Detective Inspector Craig Joel said.
He said it has been a very difficult time for the young woman and praised her courage for reporting the alleged crime.
Detective Acting Inspector Joel said police will oppose bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the attack once the alleged offender appears in court.
