Appeal for information on murdered Chinese student

01 Jul, 2009 04:21 PM
POLICE are appealing for further information in relation to the alleged murder of a Chinese student in Hobart on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Peter Powell said several people phoned police anonymously on Monday in relation the death of 26-year-old Zhang ``Tina'' Yu.

``Detectives are keen for any of those people to contact police again, as it is believed they have evidence vital to the investigation,'' he said.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who may have heard a disturbance taking place at a block of units at 103 New Town Rd on Thursday, he said.

``Police believe it's possible that, between approximately 2am and 5am, someone may have heard a loud disturbance taking place and thought of it as a domestic dispute.''

Information can be provided to detectives during office hours on 6230 2603, or by calling Tasmania Police on 6230 333 000.

Two men have been charged over the murder and two other people with failing to report a killing.
