Families can make large savings by buying generic products that are identical to expensive brand-name items, federal Consumer Affairs Minister Craig Emerson says.
Dr Emerson said he went on shopping expeditions at Woolworths and Coles stores at Parramatta in western Sydney, buying 22 home- brand items and their brand-name equivalents to test the claim.
