Aird upbeat on impact of Cadbury takeover

20 Jan, 2010 04:59 PM
THE Tasmanian Government is hopeful that new opportunities for expansion may arise from the proposed takeover of Cadbury by US food giant Kraft.

Economic Development Minister Michael Aird said

it should be considered an opportunity.

"I would support any move by Kraft to expand the Claremont operation which is an important employer in Tasmania," he said.

"There are examples of takeovers which have benefited Tasmanian operations. Lion Nathans expansion of Boags is an excellent example."

Mr Aird said he had asked the Department of Economic Development to contact local Cadbury management to get an update on the potential impact of the takeover on the Tasmanian operations.

"I will be seeking a meeting with the owners at an appropriate time to emphasise the State Governments support for the continued operation of the Tasmanian Cadbury plant and its potential expansion."

Meanwhile, Primary Industries Minister David Llewellyn has flown to Tokyo to meet companies interested in vegetable processing and forestry in Tasmania.

Mr Llewellyn said he would be joined at some meetings by Forestry Tasmania managing director Bob Gordon and Gunns Limited chairman John Gay.

So now it is Llewellyn's turn for an overseas trip to push the word for Gunns and forestry, under the thin veil of vegetable processing. didn't know we could eat trees. When do we stop paying for government ministers to drum up business for a private company?

Plantation trees are officially designated a 'crop' and maybe Mr Llewellyn can persuade the Japanese that the chips produced from them are an ideal supplement to go with scientific whale steaks. Maybe as a dessert they can have chocolate flavoured cheese wedges - all eaten with Old Growth chop sticks?

Self-interest is an amazing force, it can blind an elected rep to all ethical and moral issues!

We might have won the War but we are about to lose the battle. The Japanese are about to take over by gift Tasmania's natural resources given to a suspect private company for virtually nothing, by our far to friendly local pollies. This will enable Gunns to fund a Pulp Mill. The Japanese can then rape and pollute our landscape whilst preserving theirs.

Llewellyn, Gordon and Gay, as three wise men from Tasmania should by now understand that: 1. The secret is to look for solutions and not to blame the community and the environment movement. 2. To shrink the state Parliament in order to “get rid” of the Greens was unsuccessful and needs to be reversed. 3 The Japanese customers have listened to the many voices and they now realise that the forest-mining industry together with Forestry Tasmania and the LabLib Governments have pretended for years, cunningly belittled the issues. 4. Despite realising the growing problem, they went into denial and spend massiv amounts of public money and energy to mask away the truth. 5. How we got to this point is only relevant to deciding where we go from here. 6. We know many of our mistakes from the past, but are doomed to repeat them while we refuse to admit to them. They had their chance, they had their time, they made their money – now their time is up. Game over!

Astonishing. Here we have a government minister and the head of a government GBE tagging along to guarantee the promises of Tasmanian public resources made by a logging company executive. Together with Gay's unloading of Gunns shares and beachfront homes, this has the look of a liquidation sale.

Minister Llewelyn. Mr Gordon and John Gay, are indeed three wise men. Tasmania should be proud of these gentlemen particularly Gunns. If it were not for commy whingers like Bob Brown, Bob Mcmahon and Paul Oosting and other greeny groups we have the worlds cleanest & greenest mill operating now and there would be a jobs bonanza in Tasmania. I blame the latte sippers & wine wankers in the community and the corrupt environment movement. I just hope the japs listen to good sense and decide to get behind John Gay and the mill. The sooner the election comes and we can get rid of the pro-gay, anti-jobs Greens the better.

Nobody raises and eyebrow when Bob Brown and his flowery friends jet around the world sabotaging Tasmania,s sustainable forest industry. The Wilderness groups and The Greens have done this many time at the tax payers expense. So why the hysterics when our democratically elected reps go overseas to promote a great Tasmanian company? The chief scientist said the mill will not harm the environment so lets build it. Go Gunns!

Hey, Kerry, you are the only WANKER and I am being polite. If you have a brain it is time you used it!
