National Harley rally a roar for Aurora

10 Nov, 2009 10:51 AM
ACCOLADES were flowing yesterday like the wildwater through Cataract Gorge and all were directed at the national Harley Owners Group rally and its venue, Aurora Stadium.

Rally organiser Kim Williams had her first day off for a week yesterday and headed into Launceston's CBD to have her nails done, still elated at how the rally had gone.

"We couldn't have asked for better weather and the 2000 rallyists were rapt in the reception the people of Launceston gave them, it was fantastic," she said.

"And people at Aurora Stadium were so accommodating - they did everything for us to make the rally work and the rallyists were rapt that it was all enclosed."

Ms Williams said that most of the rallyists stayed in hotels or motels, ate three meals a day and packed out many of Launceston's eateries and pubs.

Inveresk Precinct Authority manager Robert Groenewegen said that he had been impressed with the effort rally organisers put into the event.

"There was a pretty big spend involved getting the venue right, looking as good as it did and protecting the turf," he said.

Launceston Chamber of Commerce executive officer Lou Clark said that the town was "pumping" during the rally.

Accommodation was booked out, restaurants were full and many Tasmanians came into town for one or both of the concerts at the rally, she said.
