Text it, tweet it, blog it, live it! is the current Newspapers in Education (NiE) project being run by The Examiner Newspaper for Tasmanian school students in Grades 5 -10.
As part of this project (featured in The Examiner on Tuesdays on June 29, July 6, July 13 and July 27) we’re inviting school students to log on to The Examiner website and post their comments about a range of issues involving digital media and social networking.
Over the past quarter of a century new web-based digital technologies have changed the way we communicate and have had a major influence on the way we live our lives.
With a few key strokes people can learn new skills, gain knowledge and communicate with each other, and be entertained through the use of digital media. It’s an easy way to buy and sell, organise social events, share photos, play games and have fun. These new technologies have led to an entirely new way of bringing people and resources together.
Text it, tweet it, blog it… live it! It’s the way of our world today! But, while it’s been said that digital technology has transformed 21st century communication, there are always two sides to the coin. As is the case with anything new, while there are many pluses, there are also a few minuses.
What do you think? Please post your comments below.

* What social networking sites do you visit the most?
* What issues concern you, if any, when you’re using social networking sites?
* What other issues concern you when you’re online?
* What cyber safety measures do you use?
* Should social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter be accessible at school?
* What rules are there at your home about internet usage?
* How can social networking sites help you with your school work?
